iPSC-derived cells for BBB integrity testing
The BBB is formed primarily by specialized brain microvascular endothelial cells supported by pericytes, astrocytes, neurons, and extracellular matrix. Together, these cells regulate transport between the systemic circulation and the central nervous system.
Human iPSC → iPSC-derived brain endothelial cells + iPSC-derived pericytes + iPSC-derived astrocytes +
iPSC-derived neurons → Neurovascular unit / BBB model → Drug or toxicant exposure → BBB integrity + permeability + neuronal response
We assess the BBB integrity by measuring the Trans-endothelial electrical resistance (TEER), Paracellular permeability (FITC Dextran), tight junction proteins (ZO-1, OCLN, Claudin 5), and BBB inflammatory responses.
